Planned Giving

A planned gift is any major gift to a charitable organization, made during a donor’s lifetime or in their will, as part of their overall financial or estate planning. Please contact us for more information on any of these options.

A well planned charitable gift benefits both the recipient and the donor (or their estate).

Acorn Endowment Fund

To ensure a stable financial base for our future, the SSI Conservancy has started a long-term fundraising effort to build a permanent endowment fund of $2 million.

When you direct a major gift or bequest to our Acorn Fund your gift will continue to benefit the community long into the future.

Funds directed to an endowment fund must remain in that fund, ensuring they will continue to be spent as you intended.

Bequests: Any gift can be left in a will, including money, securities, real estate or personal property. You can specify a dollar amount or proportion of an estate, or of the residue (the assets left after your heirs have been provided for and expenses paid). Donation receipts are issued to the estate for the value of the gift.

Gifts of Life Insurance: Naming the SSI Conservancy as a beneficiary of a new or existing policy is an excellent way to donate. Your estate will receive tax credits for the donation, which may amount to more than the amount paid in premiums. You could also donate an older policy that is no longer needed.

Charitable Remainder Trusts: Assets that you wish to leave to the SSI Conservancy are transferred to a Trust, which allows you to receive a donation tax credit now, without losing the income from your assets during your life time.

There are also other options for planned giving, such as charitable gift annuities, gifts of RRSPs and life estates.

We encourage you to consult with your legal and financial advisors to discuss what is best for you. We cannot act as your advisor or offer professional advice but we would be pleased to work with your independent advisors to help you in making your decision.
