North View Nature Reserve Area: 7.2 hectares (17.8 acres) Ecology: Typical Salt Spring mixed forest with a hardwoods and conifers on the lower (eastern) portion of the Reserve and dry Douglas fir and alder stands on the uphill (western) portion. Public Trails: Walking trails were built in 2011 and are now open to the public. A walk on the entire trail system can be completed in half an hour but we suggest you allow at least an hour to enjoy the native vegetation. Acquisition: Donated anonymously to the SSIC in June 2008. A baseline study has been completed and management planning continues. Portions of the NVR were clear-cut prior to donation of the land and those are being cleared of Scotch Broom and replanted with native species. The SSIC is conducting studies to estimate the native populations of plants and animals (particularly birds) and to provide better refuge for sustaining and enhancing populations of native species.
