Mt. Erskine Nature Reserve Area: 42.3 hectares (104.5 acres) Ecology: Coastal Douglas-fir and Arbutus Public Trails: A spectacular peak with views north and west, Mt Erskine is part of a larger protected area of almost 240 hectares with a variety of trails, including a steep public access trail from Collins Road. Dogs are permitted as long as they are on a leash. Unfortunately, loose dogs disturb ground nesting birds and other critters who consider this their home. Acquisition: Mt. Erskine was private land until 2005 when an intensive fund-raising drive by the SSIC secured it for future generations. This peak in combination with two parcels of Crown land will be the basis of a new BC Provincial Park when the park management plans are completed and approved.
