Manzanita Ridge Nature Reserve

Area: 20.0 hectares (49.3 acres)

Ecology: South facing slope of coastal Douglas-fir habitat.

Public Trails: 0.5 km, at the south-east end of the Mt. Erskine ridge, south of the hydro transmission right-of-way. Dogs are permitted as long as they are on a leash.  Unfortunately, loose dogs disturb ground nesting birds and other critters who consider this their home.

Acquisition: Purchased in 2003 from Martin Williams through a local fund-raising campaign. He also dedicated a right of way to the reserve across his land. The land is protected by a conservation covenant held jointly by the Trust Fund Board and the Salt Spring Island Local Trust Committee.
