Join our Conservation Friends

When you make donations totalling $250 or more in a year, you become one of our special supporters: the Conservation Friends.

You will have the satisfaction of knowing you are making a major contribution to conservation on Salt Spring. We will also invite you to our annual Donor Appreciation Day in the spring, hosted by SSIC Directors and staff. This is an opportunity to learn more about our island ecosystems and wildlife, hear the latest results of our work and share your ideas on conservation.

Monthly Withdrawals

Please consider setting up a regular schedule of donations. Even small monthly donations soon add up to valuable support!

Two ways to make a monthly donation:

  1. We are now set up to accept donations made as automatic monthly withdrawals from your account. Please contact us for the form to fill in authorizing the withdrawal through your bank.

  2. Through CanadaHelps you can set up a schedule for donations that will be automatically charged to your credit card once a month (or any other interval you choose).

Other Welcome Gifts

Securities. Publicly traded stocks, bonds and mutual funds make excellent charitable gifts, with attractive tax benefits. You receive a charitable tax receipt for the current market value, but you do not pay capital gains taxes on securities that have appreciated.

These can be donated directly to the SSI Conservancy or to CanadaHelps on our behalf.

Real Estate: There are two main kinds of property gifts and charitable tax receipts are issued for both. One is the gift of real estate, with or without buildings, that is given with the understanding that it can be sold to raise funds to support our work. Such gifts are often left as a bequest.

The other type of property gift is of ecologically valuable land, given with the agreement that it will be protected. By donating it to the Conservancy, you can ensure that the land is protected forever.

Artwork: We are happy to accept these and other tangible assets subject to certain conditions regarding appraisal and disposition.
