2010 Fundraising Campaign: Growing the Acorn Fund To ensure a stable financial base for our future, we have started a major long-term fundraising effort to build a permanent endowment fund.
With income from memberships, events and our annual appeal, the yearly income from the Acorn Fund would eventually be sufficient to maintain our popular programs and support our office. How You Can Help By donating to the Acorn Fund, you make sure that your gift continues to benefit the community long into the future. Funds directed to an endowment fund remain in that fund, ensuring that they will continue to be spent as you intended. Consider directing a bequest in your will to our Acorn Fund—it literally becomes ‘a gift that keeps on giving’.
Donations We welcome gifts of cash, securities, life insurance policies, land and some other types of property. These can be one-time gifts, monthly donations, pledges over several years or bequests in a will.
We provide a charitable tax receipt for donations of $20 or more. Send cheques to: Salt Spring Island Conservancy Or donate online through Canada Helps.
Please consider setting up a regular schedule of donations. Even small monthly donations soon add up to valuable support! Two ways to make a monthly donation:
Join our Conservation Friends When you make donations totalling $250 or more in a year, you become one of our special supporters: the Conservation Friends.
Other Welcome Gifts Securities. Publicly traded stocks, bonds and mutual funds make excellent charitable gifts, with attractive tax benefits. You receive a charitable tax receipt for the current market value, but you do not pay capital gains taxes on securities that have appreciated (see Stretching Your Donation Dollars). Securities can be donated directly to the SSI Conservancy or to CanadaHelps on our behalf. Contact the SSI Conservancy office for our brokerage account number and contact information Real Estate: There are two main kinds of property gifts and charitable tax receipts are issued for both. One is the gift of real estate, with or without buildings, that is given with the understanding that it can be sold to raise funds to support our work. Such gifts are often left as a bequest. The other type of property gift is of ecologically valuable land, given with the agreement that it will be protected. By donating it to the Conservancy, you can ensure that the land is protected forever. Artwork: We are happy to accept these and other tangible assets subject to certain conditions regarding appraisal and disposition. For US donors: We are registered with CAF America, which enables donors to make gifts that qualify for a US tax deduction. Please contact us for more information. We always recommend that you consult with your lawyer,
