Donation of Title

If you wish to see your land protected as a nature reserve for generations to come, you may want to donate all or part of it to the SSI Conservancy.

Tax Benefits of Land Donations: Under the federal Ecological Gifts Program, there are income tax incentives for donating ecologically valuable land. Donors are relieved of capital gains tax on the property and receive a charitable donation receipt that can be applied over 6 years to offset their income taxes.

A special subdivision policy for land in the Islands Trust area makes it possible for landowners to subdivide a property so that they can donate an ecologically valuable portion of their land to a land conservancy.

U.S. Taxpayers: You can also gain the same tax benefits from donations of Canadian land or covenants through the American Friends of Canadian Land Trusts. The SSI Conservancy is a qualified recipient for land donations under this program.

In some cases, the SSI Conservancy may consider purchasing ecologically sensitive land. Please call our office to make an appointment with our Acquisitions Committee to discuss your plans and options.
