Committees

Our Committees carry out many important projects and services on behalf of the SSI Conservancy. Each committee is chaired by a member of the Board of Directors.

If you are interested in volunteering to join one of our committees, we would love to hear from you.

Acquisitions Committee: Works to ensure permanent protection of ecologically important property on Salt Spring, whether donated or purchased.

Covenants Committee: Helps landholders place conservation covenants on their property. These voluntary agreements protect ecological values of a property forever.

Education Committee: Organizes public education events and workshops on natural history and ecological issues.  Since 2002, the committee has also awarded an annual scholarship to a Gulf Islands Secondary School student.

Environmental Goverance Committee: Responds to emerging environmental issues on Salt Spring Island and makes recommendations for action to the Board of Directors.

Financial Foundations Committee: Develops long-term financial and fundraising plans to support the work of the SSI Conservancy.

Governance Committee: Reviews community environmental issues and recommends actions to the SSI Conservancy Board.

Land Restoration & Management Committee: Manages the SSI Conservancy’s nature reserves.

Schools Committee: Delivers the Stewards in Training school program, which provides field trips every year for all grade 2 – 8 students on Salt Spring. About 700 children participate each year in learning about local ecosystems.

Stewardship Committee: Assists landowners to become good stewards of their land.
